Book Signing Festivities: Veneration Rites of Curanderismo

Workshop: Invoking the Sacred Energies of our Ancestors Festivities
We come together as community to tune in, invoke, and honor our ancestors. Erika Buenaflor will first discuss Indigenous Mesoamerican understandings of our ancestors as breath, wind, and sweet-smelling fragrances, and how they relate to the more contemporary tradition of creating papel picado for our ancestors. Then, we make papel picado for our ancestors, share who our papel picado is for, and close with medicine music and ceremony to honor our ancestors as community.

Book Reading/Signing of Veneration Rites of Curanderismo: Book Reading with Erika Buenaflor and Luis J. Rodriguez
Luis J. Rodriguez will be opening with a portion of his foreword, and as always with humor, wit, and his gift of storytelling. Erika Buenaflor will be sharing about her principal inspirations for writing Veneration Rites of Curanderismo, and how the rites shared in this book can be incredibly healing for all of us personally, as well as our ancestral lineages. There will be a book signing for Veneration Rites of Curanderismo at the end.
